Jazz Trio/Jazz Band – London, Sussex, Surrey, Kent, Essex, Hampshire.
The Eugene Portman Trio was formed in 2004 and performs extensively in Kent, Sussex, Surrey, London and throughout UK. Eugene, an established jazz pianist appearing in jazz bands and as a solo pianist was constantly being asked to put a trio or a jazz band together for various events, he began to consistently use the same musicians and the Eugene Portman Trio was formed. The performing Trio is currently made up of the following members:
Eugene Portman on piano classically trained has been a professional pianist for many years and plays as well as a solo pianist as he does accompanying singers and playing in a band. His first love is Jazz and his flare for improvisation is second to none. He can also play classical recitals as well as the more recent popular tunes.
Mike Porter-Ward on bass from Faversham, Kent a professional musician playing both bass guitar and double bass, in a variety of bands from light Orchestras to Rock bands. His forte and passion is Jazz and has played with some wonderful musicians including: Harry Connick Jnr. Scott Hamilton, Bobby Scott, Jim Mullen and Acker Bilk to name a few.
Roy Jackson on Drums from Andover, Hampshire. Roy has played in all manner of bands from orchestral to funk and soul. However, his main focus of my playing has always been in jazz and this is the style that Roy has become mostly associated with these days.
More recently the trio have been performing with lounge lizard David Edwards,
Jazz and swing singer Sheila Daniels
and the rat pack style singer Steve Conway.

The Eugene Portman Trio grew from a need for a jazz band that wasn’t too high-brow, but consisted of great tunes. A style of music that would have a more general appeal than most contemporary jazz bands. Influences having been the classic jazz trios of Dudley Moore, Oscar Peterson and Monty Alexander. These influences combined with a an innovative creativity and a certain feel good quality have been instrumental in making the trio highly suitable for corporate events, weddings and private parties. The music can be mellow at times and exciting when the mood calls for it.
Apart from the great music that they produce; they also project a feeling of sheer joy. The fact that they are the best of mates seems to be self evident in their music.
How far will they travel?
They are permanently travelling throughout the UK, if they have an event in Cumbria it would be easy to travel to Lancashire for a wedding the following day. They are currently touring the following counties: Essex, Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, London, Essex, Suffolk, Berkshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire.
So if you are looking for a jazz band to add a bit of sparkle to your event or wedding – then look no further you have found what you are looking for.
