The Eugene Portman Trio was formed in 2004 and has performed extensively in Kent, Sussex, Surrey, London and throughout UK. Eugene Portman was already firmly established as a jazz pianist and was touring extensively with the wonderful jazz vocalist Alice Harvey. He was also appearing up and down both in jazz bands and as a solo performer. Having been requested on numerous occasions to put a trio together for various events he eventually began to use the same musicians nearly all the time. So the Eugene Portman Trio was formed and consists of Eugene Portman from Lingfield, Surrey (on piano); Roy Jackson from Andover, Sussex on drums and Mike Porter-Ward from Faversham, Kent on bass. More recently the trio have been performing with the fabulous jazz and swing singer Sheila Daniels and the superb rat pack style singer Steve Conway. Please refer to the links page for both their web addresses. The Eugene Portman Trio grew from a need for jazz that wasn't too high-brow,
but consisted of great tunes. A style of music that would have a more
general appeal than most contemporary jazz bands. Influences having been
the classic jazz trios of Dudley Moore, Oscar Peterson and Monty Alexander.
These influences combined with a an innovative creativity and a certain
"feel good" quality" have been instrumental in making the trio highly
suitable for corporate events, weddings and private parties. The music
can be mellow at times and exciting when the mood calls for it. How far will they travel? There isn't really any restriction on how far the trio will travel. They are permanently travelling throughout the UK so if they have an event in Cumbria then it wouldn't be far to travel to Lancashire for a wedding on the following day. Most of there work comes from the following counties:Essex, Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, London, Essex, Suffolk, Berkshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire.
